The Five Stairsteps, also known as the Invisible Man's Band, were an American soul ensemble from Chicago active between 1965 and 1983. The group was established by the family members Alohe Jean, Clarence Jr., James, Dennis, Kenneth, and Cubie Burke. After winning a talent contest at the Regal Theater in Chicago they achieved professional recognition for several tracks produced by Curtis Mayfield including "You Waited Too Long" (1966), "Danger! Sheâs a Stranger" (1967), and "A Million to One" (1968). They achieved professional recognition for the track "O-o-h Child" (1970) which reached number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 and received a gold certification. Their discography includes the studio recordings Our Family Portrait (1968), Stairsteps (1970), and 2nd Resurrection (1976). Operating as the Invisible Man's Band they released the studio recordings Invisible Man's Band (1980) and Really Wanna See You (1981). They achieved professional recognition for the track "All Night Thing" (1980) which reached number 9 on the R&B charts. James Burke died on 19 February 2021.
