Daniel Haaksman, born on December 24, 1968, in Rome, Italy, is a German DJ and music producer. He started his career in Frankfurt am Main at the end of the 1980s and moved to Berlin in 1997. Haaksman gained recognition with his compilations Dub Infusions (1999) and founding the Essay Recordings label in the late 1990s and early 2000s. In 2004, he introduced Baile Funk to an international audience with his compilation Rio Baile Funk Favela Booty Beats (2004). He founded Man Recordings in 2005, releasing works by Brazilian artists like João Brasil and Sany Pitbull. His debut EP "Whoâs Afraid of Rio?" (2008) was released later, followed by the album Rambazamba (2011). Haaksman produced remixes for artists such as Crystal Fighters and Madera Limpia. In 2016, he released the album African Fabrics (2016), featuring collaborations with African singers like Tony Amado and Spoek Mathambo.
