Biography

Dan Gibson, born Daniel Gibson on January 19, 1922 in Montreal, Canada, was a photographer, cinematographer, and sound recordist. He produced nature films such as Audubon Wildlife Theatre during the late 1940s. His early recordings from the 1950s and 1960s were released on LP records, leading to the introduction of his Solitudes series in 1981. Gibson's career spanned numerous albums including Angels of the Sea (1995), Forest Piano (1996), and Island Paradise (1996). He was awarded The Order of Canada in 1994 for his environmental works and received the Walt Grealis Special Achievement Award at the Juno Awards ceremony in Hamilton, Ontario in 1997. His Solitudes albums have sold over 20,000,000 copies worldwide, with several achieving Gold and Platinum status in Canada. Gibson passed away on March 18, 2006 in Toronto.
