Biography

Singer, flautist and percussionist Dédé Saint-Prix has been a key figure in West Indian music since the creation of Patatak in the late 1970s. In particular, Dédé Saint-Prix is one of the architects of the modernization of "chouval bwa", which later led to the zouk popularized by Kassav'. First and foremost a performer, Dédé Saint-Prix has appeared on some thirty records, both on his own and with groups such as Malavoi. Dédé Saint-Prix doesn't limit himself to West Indian music, venturing into salsa, Haitian rara, raggamuffin and even rap. The albums Fruits de la Patience (2005) and Melanj (2007) provide an insight into this great musician's recent output. In association with saxophonist Jean-Rémy Guédon and multi-instrumentalist Christian Laviso, he released Kaladjazz in November 2012. In 2014, he devoted the album Aka Mon Sosoto Guadeloupean gwoka with percussionist Gérard Pomer.
