Cool John Ferguson, born John W. Ferguson on December 3, 1953 in Beaufort, South Carolina, was an American blues guitarist and singer-songwriter. He began playing guitar at age three and by five was performing professionally with his siblings as 'Little John and the Ferguson Sisters' on a Charleston radio station. In the early 1960s, he joined the Earl Davis Trio and later played with Stephen Best and the Soul Crusaders. Ferguson released his first album, Cool John Ferguson, in 2001. He collaborated extensively, providing backing for artists like Taj Mahal, B.B. King, and Kenny "Blues Boss" Wayne. His notable albums include Cool Yule (2002), Guitar Heaven (2003), With These Hands (2007) and Live at the Hamilton (2015). Ferguson was the Director of Creative Development for the Music Maker Relief Foundation from the 1990s until his death on August 12, 2025. He was recognized by Living Blues magazine as 'Most Outstanding Guitarist' in two consecutive years.
