Clay Davidson, born on April 4, 1971 in Saltville, Virginia, is an American country music singer. Coming from a musical family, Davidson moved to Nashville, Tennessee in pursuit of a record deal. His breakthrough came when he won Charlie Daniels' Talent Round-Up show in 1995. Shortly after, Davidson became a demo singer for other artists and was later recommended by rock artist Jude Cole to Scott Hendricks at Virgin Records Nashville. Davidson signed with the label in late 1999 and released his debut album Unconditional on April 11, 2000. The title track "Unconditional" reached number 3 on the Billboard country charts, followed by two more Top 30 hits from the same album. However, Virgin Records Nashville closed its branch in early 2001 and Davidson was transferred to Capitol Records Nashville without producing any new material for the label. On July 20, 2001, he and his touring band were involved in a bus accident outside Effingham, Illinois, which led to the cancellation of several concerts due to minor injuries sustained by the band members.
