BlackHawk, an American country music band from Nashville, Tennessee, was formed in 1992. The group consisted of founding members Henry Paul (lead vocals, guitar, mandolin), Dave Robbins (keyboards, vocals), and Van Stephenson (vocals, guitar). Prior to forming BlackHawk, Paul was a member of the Southern rock band Outlaws, while both Stephenson and Robbins had success as songwriters for acts such as Restless Heart. The band's debut album, Blackhawk, was released in February 1994 under Arista Nashville and certified double-platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The album featured several successful singles, including "Every Once in a While" which peaked at number 2 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. BlackHawk's subsequent albums included Strong Enough (1995), Love & Gravity (1997), and The Sky's the Limit (1998). Notable songs from these releases include "I'm Not Strong Enough to Say No" and "Like There Ain't No Yesterday". The band received multiple nominations for Vocal Group of the Year from both the Academy of Country Music (ACM) and the Country Music Association (CMA). Stephenson left the band shortly before his death in 2001. BlackHawk's last major-label album was Spirit Dancer released on Columbia Records in 2002, after which they continued with independent releases.
