Biography

Pirates of the Mississippi, a country music band from Nashville, Tennessee, was founded in 1987 by Bill McCorvey. The original lineup included Rich Alves on lead guitar and backing vocals, Jimmy Lowe on drums, Pat Severs on steel guitar and Dobro, and Dean Townson on bass guitar and backing vocals. Their debut album, Pirates of the Mississippi, was released in June 1990 under Capitol Records. The album produced four chart singles, including "Honky Tonk Blues" and their most successful single, "Feed Jake", which peaked at Number 15 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts. In 1991, they released Walk the Plank. Notable achievements include being named Top New Group by Radio & Records in 1990 and receiving the Top New Vocal Group award from the Academy of Country Music in 1991. The band disbanded in 1996 but reunited briefly in 2006 to release Heaven And A Dixie Night.
