Casey Janice Hobbs, known professionally as Casey J, was born on June 29, 1986, in Atlanta, Georgia. She is an American singer who grew up immersed in gospel music, with both her mother and grandmother singing in the choir at Lilly Hill Baptist Church. At age 12, she joined the Atlanta Young Singers of Callanwolde and sang with them until she enrolled at the University of Georgia. After graduation, she became an elementary school math teacher and also sang as a worship leader at Fresh Start Church.
Casey J's breakthrough came with her cover of Will Reaganâs "Fill Me Up," which she began performing at Fresh Start Church. The song received such positive feedback that it was recorded and released to radio in spring 2014, hitting the top ten of the Billboard Gospel Airplay chart that spring and reaching Number 1 on the Billboard Gospel chart in 2015. This success led to the release of her debut album, The Truth, on April 21, 2015, which topped the Billboard Top Gospel Albums chart and reached 131 on the Billboard 200. The album was recorded live at Fresh Start Church.
