Barkmarket was a rock band formed in New York City in 1987, consisting of singer, guitarist, and main songwriter Dave Sardy, bass guitarist John Nowlin, and drummer Rock Savage. The group released their first independently recorded demo tape, BARKMARKET, in 1986, followed by the cassette album 1-800-GODHOUSE in 1987. They were signed to Purge/Soundleague in NYC and later moved to Triple X Records, which released their third album, Vegas Throat. This album featured guest work from avant-jazz guitarist Marc Ribot and attracted the interest of Rick Rubin, leading to Barkmarket being one of the first groups signed to American Recordings. Their final album, L. Ron, was released in 1996. Sardy's production work took precedence over his band duties, resulting in the group quietly disbanding in 1997. Sardy has since produced for groups such as System of a Down, Helmet, and Oasis.
