Biography

Zion Train, formed in Oxford in 1988 by Neil Perch and Ben Hamilton, is a British dub ensemble that blended reggae with contemporary dance elements. Early releases, including the 7" singles "Power One" and "Power Two", established a foothold on the underground dub scene, while the 1992 single "Follow Like Wolves" fused dub with acid house and attracted attention from UK indie audiences and the broader electronic community. Over the next decade the group released Love Revolutionaries (2000), Secrets Of The Animal Kingdom In Dub (2000), Original Sounds Of The Zion (2002), and State Of Mind (2011). Zion Train toured extensively, collaborated with acts such as The Shamen and Afro Celt Sound System, and operated its own label, Universal Egg, before signing with China Records in 1995 and later returning to Universal Egg in 1999. The ensemble’s work has influenced minimal techno and minimal dub, and its 2009 remix album Live As One earned a Jamaican Reggae Grammy for Best Dub Recording.
