Eddie Lovette, born in 1943 in Cairo, Georgia, was a singer whose career blended Caribbean rhythms with American roots. After early gospel work with the Cairo Echo Jrâs and a psychology degree from the University of Miami, he joined the group Eddie and The Tropics, performing at venues such as the Copacabana Supper Club in Manhattan. His breakthrough came in 1969 with the single "Too Experienced", which entered the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 at number 95. The same year, he released his selfâtitled album Eddie Lovette, followed by the 1983 releases Hits On Reggae and Merry Christmas. Subsequent albums All For You (1985), Rockers For Lovers Vol. II (1986), and A True Experience (1987) expanded his discography. In 1984, the Canadian Reggae Music Awards named him Top International Male Singer. He died of lung cancer on April 29, 1998, at age 55.
