Biography

Wrekmeister Harmonies is an experimental music collective from Chicago, led by musician and composer JR Robinson. Named after Béla Tarr's film Werckmeister Harmonies, the group combines elements of drone music, serialism, post-rock, and heavy metal. Their performances typically feature a single composition lasting nearly an hour. Wrekmeister Harmonies released their first album Recordings Made in Public Spaces in 2009, followed by Pittsburgh in 2010. They gained significant attention with the release of You've Always Meant So Much to Me in 2013 on Thrill Jockey, which was selected as one of the "20 Best Metal Albums of 2013" by Spin and rated 7.9/10 by Pitchfork Media. The group toured internationally with Grails and headlined in Europe. They are known for bringing major metal artists to perform in unconventional venues such as the Andy Warhol Museum and Pompidou Center.
