Vola and the Oriental Machine was formed in 2005 by drummer Ahito Inazawa, born 6â¯Juneâ¯1973 in Fukuoka, Japan, who transitioned from percussion to frontâman, guitar and vocals. After departing Zazen Boys, he recruited guitarist Yutaka Aoki, drummer Daiki Nakahata, and bassist Yoshinori Arie, creating a fourâmember unit that blended pop and rock elements. The group debuted with the miniâalbum Waiting for My Food on 25â¯Januaryâ¯2006, followed by the single "Hane no Hikari" on 25â¯Octoberâ¯2006, which established their presence in the Japanese indie scene. In 2007 the fullâlength Android: Like a House Mannequin was released, featuring a Polysicsâproduced remix that received airplay on national radio. Subsequent releases included the EP Halan'na-ca Darkside (â¯2008), the album SaâKaâNa Electric Device (2009), and Principle (â¯2010). The band signed with Universal Music Japan and later Daizawa Records, touring extensively across Japan and participating in several music festivals. In 2014 the EP Regalecus russelii showcased a shift toward experimental sounds, while Transducer (2019) marked another studio effort, accompanied by singles "MacâRoy" (â¯2019) and "Last Dance" (2019).
