The Del Rubio Triplets were an American singer trio known for their folk and acoustic cover performances. Born Edith, Elena, and Mildred Boyd on August 23, 1921, in the Panama Canal Zone, the sisters began their musical career in the 1940s as The Boyd Triplets, performing in Xavier Cugatâs band and appearing in the 1946 musical The Duchess Misbehaves. Following the death of their mother in 1965, the group adopted the stage name The Del Rubio Triplets. Songwriter Allee Willis re-discovered the group in 1985, introducing them to a new audience through her social gatherings. The trio released three studio albums: Three Gals Three Guitars (1988), Jingle Belles: Christmas with the Del Rubio Triplets (1991), and Whip It (1991). Their repertoire featured covers of songs such as "Whip It" by Devo and "Neutron Dance" by The Pointer Sisters. The group made numerous television appearances on series including Married... with Children, Full House, The Golden Girls, and the Pee-wee's Playhouse Christmas Special. The trio became inactive in 1996 after Edith Del Rubio was diagnosed with cancer and died later that year on December 16. A compilation, Del Rubio Triplets Anthology, was released in 1999. Elena Del Rubio died in 2001, and Mildred Del Rubio passed away in 2011.
