Visible Cloaks, an American electronic musical duo based in Portland, Oregon, was formed in 2010 as Spencer Doran's solo project. Initially exploring rare groove new age music and ambient music from Japan, the project evolved into a duo when Ryan Carlile joined in 2014. Their breakthrough came with the release of Reassemblage (2017) on RVNG Intl., an album that blended influences from new age music, Italian minimalism, and Japanese ambient music. The record received critical acclaim, earning the Best New Music accolade from Pitchfork and being named an Album Pick by AllMusic. Following Reassemblage, Visible Cloaks released Lex (2017), which similarly used software programs to create electronic tranquil melodies. In 2019, they collaborated with Yoshio Ojima and Satsuki Shibano on FRKWYS Vol. 15: serenitatem. Visible Cloaks returned in 2026 with Paradessence, their first full-length in nine years, featuring âDisqueâ with Motion Graphics, âShapesâ and âThinkingâ with Yoshio Ojima and Satsuki Shibano, âIntarsiaâ with Ioana Èelaru, and âSystemâ with Componium Ensemble.
