Biography
Formed in Prague, Czech Republic in 2016, Vesna is an all-female indie pop group best known for their 2023 Eurovision Song Contest entry, âMy Sisterâs Crown.â Founded by singer and songwriter Patricia Fuxová, the group was created to celebrate Slavic sisterhood and empower femininity. Although sometimes labeled as a folk group, Vesnaâs unique musical approach blends modern pop with classic ancestral folk often sung in different languages including Czech, English, Ukrainian, Polish, and Bulgarian. Vesna has also featured violinist Bára Šůstková and flutists Tereza Äepková and Tanita Yanková, keyboardist Olesya Ochepovská, and drummer Markéta Vedralová. The group released their debut album, Pátá bohynÄ (2018), which was a critical success and earned them the Discover of the Year award at the 2018 Ceny AndÄl award show. During the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, the group began work on their second album, Anima, which was released in May 2020. With no album released in 2021 or 2022, the group managed to release several singles including âVse stoji (No dojamem)â, âPomiluj mÄ,â and âLove Me.â Vesna were one of six competitors on ESCZ 2023, a show that chose the countryâs entry into the Eurovision Song Contest. After winning that contest, they represented the Czech Republic in the international Eurovision Song Contest. Their song, âMy Sisterâs Crown,â came in 10th place in the contest but because a huge hit single in their homeland and in other parts of Europe including Finland, Lithuania, and Sweden. The day after the contest ended, Vesna released their 2023 Muzika EP.
