Biography
Emma & Matilda is a folk duo that formed in 2020 when both were attending Tampere School for the Performing Arts. Founded by Emma Johansson and Matilda Malkarmäki, the duo came to prominence releasing videos on social media. Their sensitive folk approach attracted a large audience, who embraced their singles "Joku jonka sä haluut" (2022) and "Sä saat mut" (2023). Emma & Matilda reached the Top 40 with âVeronicaâ (number 31) and âJoku Muuâ (number 13) in 2023. That same year, they issued their first EP, Siellä on kaikki niin ihanaa, which reached number 9 on the chart. Their songs "Joku muu" and "Kauan" (taken from their 2024 EP, Toinen vuosi) became viral hits along with the 2024 single "Sisko.â The duo collaborated with Finnish rap duo JVG for their 2025 single "Kävi miten kävi,â which hit number 1 on the Singles chart. Emma & Matilda hit number 1 again with the single "Rakkauden haudalla,â a collaboration with Lauri Haav. In September 2025, Emma & Matilda released the single âEi kulu päivääkään,â which became another viral hit.
