Biography

Urban Hype were an English breakbeat hardcore ensemble from Chandler's Ford, Hampshire active between 1988 and 2010. The group was established by the musicians Bob Dibden and Mark Lewis and later included the member MC Bounce. They achieved professional recognition for a musical style characterized as breakbeat hardcore and toytown techno. Their recording career began with the debut studio recording Introducing Urban Hype (1989). They achieved professional recognition for the track “A Trip to Trumpton” (1992) which reached number 6 in the United Kingdom. Their discography included the tracks “Teknologi” (1990) which reached number 94, “Living in a Fantasy” (1992) which reached number 57, and “The Feeling” (1992) which reached number 67. The ensemble released the studio recordings Conspiracy to Dance (1992), which was briefly released in the United States through the label Radikal Records, Kealey (1995), Love Island (1998), and Winning Run (2000). Their recording career included the studio recordings 2002 (2002), Digital Nation (2006), and Alien Information (2008). They achieved professional recognition for seasonal tracks including “The Official Christmas Megamix” (1996) and “One More Day 'Till Christmas” (2008). The ensemble became inactive in 2010.
