Biography

Upupayāma is the psychedelic project of Italian multi-instrumentalist Alessio Ferrari, originally from Emilia-Romagna. Based in a small mountain village near Parma, he composes, records, and performs nearly all of his music in a studio set up in a barn. His musical style blends Eastern and Western folk traditions, psychedelic rock, krautrock, Anatolian psychedelia, world music, and pastoral folk. In addition to a full rock lineup, Alessio Ferrari plays the sitar, the erhu, various flutes, and traditional percussion instruments, and sings in a made-up language. While he works alone in the studio, he is joined by six musicians on stage. Following a self-titled debut EP released in 2020, Upupayāma released the albums *The Golden Pond* (2022), *Mount Elephant* (2024), *Live at Fuzz Club Festival 2025* (2025), and *Honesty Flowers* (2026).
