Tony Succar, born Antonio Guillermo Succar Tayrako on May 18, 1986, in San Isidro, Lima, Peru, is a renowned percussionist, composer, arranger, and producer celebrated for his contributions to Latin music. His family moved to Miami when he was two, where he was immersed in a rich musical tradition, playing cajón at three and joining his parentsâ band as a drummer by 13. After pursuing jazz studies at Florida International University, he rebranded the family band as Mixtura and released Live at the Wertheim Performing Arts Center in 2010. In 2015, Tony Succar gained international acclaim with Unity: The Latin Tribute to Michael Jackson, a groundbreaking project that topped Billboardâs Tropical Albums chart. His 2019 album Más de mà earned him two Latin Grammy Awards, including Best Salsa Album and Producer of the Year, solidifying his status as a visionary in the genre. He continued his success with the biographical documentary Más de Mà (2021) and the Grammy-nominated live album Live in Peru. In 2023, Succar collaborated with his mother on the heartfelt album Mimy y Tony, followed by the collaborative live album Alma, Corazón y Salsa (Live at Gran Teatro Nacional) a year later.
