Biography
Born on September 17, 1983 in San Antonio, Texas, Jennifer Peña first stepped into the spotlight in Houston in 1995, performing at a tribute concert for the late Latin popstar Selena. Peña's debut studio album with her band Los Jetz, Dulzura, arrived the following year, with the gold-selling release helping her to gain a foothold on the Latin music scene and establish her place as one of the leading lights of tejano music (popularized by Selena). In 1997, Peña released her second album, Jennifer Y Los Jetz, and 1998 marked the release of another gold-selling LP, Mariposa, with Los Jetz, which was nominated for Best Tejano Performance at the Latin Grammy Awards in 1999. At the height of her tejano recognition came 2000's Abrázame y Bésame (also recorded with her band Los Jetz), which was produced by Selena's older brother A.B. Quintanilla. In 2002, Peña made her solo debut with the ballad-rich Libre, which spawned a number of hits â including "Vamos Al Mundial", which was chosen as the anthem for the 2002 FIFA World Cup. Produced by Rudy Pérez and Kike Santander, the album was nominated for a Grammy and was followed in 2003 by Peña's second album Seducción. Houston Rodeo Live arrived in 2004 and in 2007 Peña released Dicen Que El Tiempo.
