Today Is the Day, a noise rock band from Nashville, Tennessee, was formed in March 1992 by guitarist Steve Austin and drummer Brad Elrod. Their first release, the demo EP How to Win Friends and Influence People (1992), led to their signing with Amphetamine Reptile Records in February 1993. The band's debut album, Supernova, was released that same year. In September 1994, they gained underground metal popularity with Willpower, followed by a 1996's eponymous full-length. Today Is the Day left Amphetamine Reptile Records in 1997 and signed with Relapse Records, releasing their first album under this label, Temple of the Morning Star in September 1997. The band continued to release albums In the Eyes of God (1999), Sadness Will Prevail (2002), and Kiss the Pig (2004). In 2007, they released Axis of Eden, which was accompanied by a feature film directed by David Hall. Following albums include Pain Is a Warning (2011), Animal Mother (2014), and No Good to Anyone (2020). Archival live albums Live at the Whisky a Go-Go and Live in Japan, issued in 2021 and 2022, were respectively recorded in 1998 and 2002.
