Biography

Hailing from Cardiff, Wales, noise rock and post-hardcore band Mclusky formed in 1996 and enjoyed an initial career until 2005, before reforming in 2014. Initially named Best and formed around Andrew Falkous (vocals, guitar), Jonathan Chapple (bass) and Matthew Harding (drums), the trio made a name for themselves with their absurdist, satirically humorous lyrics on the albums My Pain and Sadness Is More Sad and Painful Than Yours (2000) and Mclusky Do Dallas (2002), produced by Steve Albini, which garnered strong critical acclaim with tracks like "To Hell with Good Intentions" and "Lightsabre Cocksucking Blues". The darker The Difference Between Me and You Is That I'm Not on Fire was released in 2004, when internal tensions led to the band's dissolution. Falkous subsequently formed Future of the Left with bassist Jack Egglestone, recruited by Mclusky in 2003. Back in 2014 under the name Mclusky* (with an asterisk), the new line-up includes Falkous, Egglestone and two bassists, Damien Sayell and, until 2018, Julia Ruzicka. Although they performed at clubs and festivals, it was several years before they returned to the studio, recording the single "Unpopular Parts of the Pig" in 2023 , coupled with "The Digger You Deep". Three more tracks followed in 2025, before the release of the album The World Is Still Here and So We Are.
