Biography

As the mid-1990s bounced around to an onslaught of Brit pop bands, a gang of Texan oddballs suddenly injected an explosion of thunderous, hardcore punk on an unsuspecting music world. Formed by High School friends Jim Ward and Cedric Bixlar-Zavala, At the Drive-In toured relentlessly across the US until a typically bombastic show in front of nine people resulted in the impressed employees of the Flipside bar in Los Angeles funding their debut album 'Acrobatic Tenement'. They became underground heroes with second album 'In/Casino/Out', but really came to the world's attention when MTV started playing their classic single 'One Armed Scissor'. 2000's 'Relationship of Command became recognised as one of the great cult albums of the era, but a serious car accident and growing drug problems led to the band splitting in 2001. Front man Bixlar-Zavala and multi-instrumentalist Omar Rodriguez-Lopez went on to form The Mars Volta, but At the Drive-In reformed in 2012 for a reunion tour and several festival appearances including Coachella, Reading and Leeds. The band broke up again with Bixlar-Zavala and Rodriguez-Lopez both focusing on solo projects. They reunited but under the guise of Antemasque and toured for two years. At the Drive-In reunited once again in 2015 and in 2016 they released their first new material in 16 years, a single titled 'Governed By Contagions'. A new album was announced shortly after with the title given as 'in.ter a.li.a'.
