theStart, an American rock band from Los Angeles, California, was formed in 1998 by Aimee Echo and Jamie Miller. Initially named Hero, they changed their name to theSTART on October 31, 1999. Their debut album, Shakedown!, was released in 2001 through The Label Records with distribution from Geffen Records. Following a period of touring and label changes, the band self-released their EP The 1234 in 2002. In October 2003, they signed to Nitro Records, which re-released their self-titled EP as Death Via Satellite. The group's studio album, Initiation, was released in 2004. After several lineup changes, the band moved to Metropolis Records in 2007 and released Ciao, Baby in June of that year. In 2015, Miller joined Bad Religion as their drummer. In 2017, the band released the 7-inch single "Yvonne DeCarlo / Magic Number".
