Biography
The World/Inferno Friendship Society, a punk rock, dark cabaret, and swing punk band from Brooklyn, New York, was formed in 1994. Led by singer Jack Terricloth, the group featured a rotating membership of about 40 players, with only seven to ten active members performing at any given time. The band's unique style blended punk, soul, klezmer, and jazz, incorporating horns, piano, and guitar. Their debut single "Tattoos Fade" was released in 1994, followed by their first album The True Story of the Bridgewater Astral League in 1997. The band gained attention for their elaborate annual Halloween show, Hallowmas, which featured theatrical performances and surprises. Notable albums include Just the Best Party (2002), Red-Eyed Soul (2006), and Addicted to Bad Ideas: Peter Lorre's Twentieth Century (2007). The World/Inferno Friendship Society continued to release music, notably their final album All Borders are Porous to Cats in 2020. Jack Terricloth passed away in May 2021 and the band became inactive the same year.
