Biography

The Wannadies, an alternative rock band from Skellefteå, northern Sweden, formed in 1988. The initial lineup included Pär Wiksten on vocals and guitar, Christina Bergmark on vocals, Micke Herrström on keyboards, Stefan Schönfeldt on guitars, his younger brother Fredrik Schönfeldt on bass, Gunnar Karlsson on drums, and Björn Malmquist on violin. Their first concert was in October 1988 at a festival supporting the Nicaraguan Sandinistas, followed by recording their debut release, Smile EP, in February 1989. The band signed with MNW Records after performing at the Hultsfred Festival in August 1989 and released their self-titled debut album in August 1990. Their second album, Aquanautic (October 1992), faced controversy due to banned music videos for "Things That I Would Love to Have Undone" and "Cherry Man". The Wannadies gained significant UK success with the release of "You & Me Song" in April 1996, which peaked at Number 18 on the UK Singles Chart. Their fourth album, Bagsy Me (January 1997), included hit singles like "Someone Somewhere", "Friends", and "Hit". The band faced label issues with MNW Records and BMG, leading to a hiatus in recording until their fifth album, Yeah (autumn 1999). Despite extensive touring, the band disbanded in 2009. They reunited in 2020 to tour and release new music, including "Can't Kill The Musikk".
