The Rainmakers, an American rock band from Kansas City, Missouri, were formed in 1983 as a three-piece bar band called Steve, Bob and Rich. The group initially consisted of Bob Walkenhorst on guitar and vocals, Steve Phillips on guitar, and Rich Ruth on bass. They released one album under this name before adding drummer Pat Tomek, which allowed Walkenhorst to switch to guitar and assume the role of frontman. The band changed their name to The Rainmakers when they were signed to PolyGram by A&R man Peter Lubin. The Rainmakers' self-titled 1986 debut album received positive reviews in the U.S. entertainment media, reaching number 87 on the U.S. Billboard album chart and achieving greater commercial success overseas. The single "Let My People Go-Go" broke into the Top 20 in the UK Singles Chart. Their follow-up albums Tornado (1987) and The Good News And The Bad News (1989), along with the live album Oslo - Wichita ⢠Live (1990), were successful in Europe but did not chart in the U.S. The band broke up after the release of the live album, which was only issued in Europe. They reformed in 2011 and were inducted into the Kansas Music Hall of Fame, releasing 25 On (2011) and touring Norway. They released Monster Movie (2014), performed at the Sweden Rock Festival in June that year, and released Cover Band in 2015. Steve Phillips died in 2020 after contracting COVID-19.
