Biography

The Cathedrals, a Southern Gospel quartet, formed in 1963 as the Cathedral Trio with Glen Payne, Bobby Clark, and Danny Koker. They became a full-time touring group in 1969 after signing with Canaan Records. Their breakthrough came when Bill Gaither invited them to perform at his annual Praise Gathering in Indianapolis, leading to collaborations on albums for Word Records. The group's lineup evolved over the years, with notable members including George Younce, Ernie Haase, Scott Fowler, and Roger Bennett. In 1983, they signed with Riversong (Benson) and released notable works like Symphony of Praise with the London Philharmonic Orchestra. They disbanded in December 1999 after a farewell tour due to health issues faced by Payne and Younce. A Farewell Celebration was released in 1999.
