Biography
The Beat Club, formed in Miami, Florida, in the late 1980s by guitaristâproducer Ony Rodriguez and Mirey Valls, emerged from Rodriguezâs earlier work with the EMIâassociated group The Voice in Fashion; his transition to electronic music reflected influences from Miami Bass, New Order, and Kraftwerk. The duo released the single âDreams Were Made To Be Brokenâ in 1991, followed by âSecurityâ in 1993, which entered the UK Singles Chart at number 92 and was released under Atlantic Records. Subsequent releases included the album Paris (1994), later reissued in 2010 with bonus tracks, and later albums Robotica (2006) and Minimalista (2008), which featured tracks such as âDream Within A Dreamâ and âLost In Spaceâ. Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, The Beat Club issued material through Electrobeat Records, their own label, and appeared on compilations by Champion Records UK and John Digweedâs Azuli releases. The Freestylers covered âSecurityâ on Adventures in Freestyle. While primarily a studio project, their work contributed to the evolution of electronic music and influenced subsequent electronic acts.
