Biography

The Aquanettas were an all-female alternative rock band from New York City, formed in 1987 by vocalist Deborah Schwartz and guitarist Jill Richmond. The group also included bassist Claudine Troise and drummer Stephanie Seymour. Their music blended classic rock influences with punk and surf rock elements. In the late 1980s, they secured a deal with Canadian label Nettwerk Productions, which distributed their recordings through IRS Records in the United States. The Aquanettas released one album, Love with the Proper Stranger, and three singles, "Beach Party," "Super Absorbent," and "Whoa!" before disbanding in 1995. Notable songs include “Mind Full of Worry,” featured on the soundtrack of Hal Hartley's 1994 film Amateur. The band toured nationally, including as a support act for Nine Inch Nails, and independently in Europe. Post-breakup, members pursued various musical projects.
