Biography

Thelonious Monster, an American punk rock band from Los Angeles, California, was formed in 1984 by singer-songwriter Bob Forrest and named after jazz musician Thelonious Monk. They released their debut album Baby...You're Bummin' My Life out in a Supreme Fashion in 1986. The band gained a following in Hollywood's underground rock clubs throughout the late 1980s and early 1990s, releasing albums such as Next Saturday Afternoon (1987) and Stormy Weather (1989). In 1992, they released Beautiful Mess, described by The Los Angeles Times as a series of soul-searching tunes about relationships and self-doubt. Notable members included guitarist John Frusciante who briefly joined before moving to Red Hot Chili Peppers. Thelonious Monster disbanded in 1994 but reunited multiple times for tours and new albums, including California Clam Chowder (2004) and Oh That Monster (2020).
