Biography
The Belltower was an American alternative rock band from New York City, formed in 1990 by singers/guitarists Britta Phillips and Jody Porter. The duo added Mark Browning before relocating to London the same year, where they recorded their debut EP Exploration Day with producer Terry Bickers. Their song "Exploration Day" was named "single of the week" by NME. Following two additional singles, their only full-length album Popdropper was released in 1992. In 1995, the band returned as a trio with new drummer Tommy Hamer and released the single "Underwatertown" before disbanding in 1996. After The Belltower's split, Phillips joined Luna and later partnered with Dean Wareham, while Porter performed with Fountains of Wayne and formed Astrojet.
