Terry Ray Garland, born June 3, 1953, in Johnson City, Tennessee, was an American blues guitarist, songwriter, and singer. Garland's early career saw him release his first two albums through BMG/First Warning, establishing himself as a country blues interpreter known for playing the National steel guitar with a slide, reminiscent of Bukka White and Fred McDowell. His discography includes Trouble in Mind (1991), Edge of the Valley (1992), The One to Blame (1996), Out Where the Blue Begins (2001), Whistling in the Dark (2006), and Rewired (2013). Notable collaborations include contributions from harmonica player Mark Wenner of the Nighthawks. Garland passed away on September 19, 2021, at the age of 68 due to congestive heart failure.
