John Archibald Swan (born 1952), better known as Swanee, is a British-born Australian rock and hard rock singer from Glasgow, Scotland. The older brother of Jimmy Barnes, Swan migrated to Australia in 1961. At age 14, he joined the band Happiness as a drummer. Following service in the Australian Army, Swan performed with the groups Fraternity and Feather. Swan launched his solo recording career in 1979 with the single âCrazy Dreamsâ. In 1981, his version of âIf I Were a Carpenterâ reached number five on the national charts. His discography featured the album This Time Itâs Different (1982) and the recordings âTemporary Heartacheâ and âLady Whatâs Your Nameâ. In 1987, Swan joined The Party Boys, whose version of âHeâs Gonna Step On You Againâ reached Number 1. Swan received the Order of Australia Medal in 2017.
