Biography

John Archibald Swan (born 1952), better known as Swanee, is a British-born Australian rock and hard rock singer from Glasgow, Scotland. The older brother of Jimmy Barnes, Swan migrated to Australia in 1961. At age 14, he joined the band Happiness as a drummer. Following service in the Australian Army, Swan performed with the groups Fraternity and Feather. Swan launched his solo recording career in 1979 with the single “Crazy Dreams”. In 1981, his version of “If I Were a Carpenter” reached number five on the national charts. His discography featured the album This Time It’s Different (1982) and the recordings “Temporary Heartache” and “Lady What’s Your Name”. In 1987, Swan joined The Party Boys, whose version of “He’s Gonna Step On You Again” reached Number 1. Swan received the Order of Australia Medal in 2017.
