Biography

Susan & the SurfTones, an American surf instrumental band, was formed by Susan L. Yasinski in Rochester, NY, in 1993 as part of the "third wave" of surf-revivalist bands. Influenced by early Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and punk music, they signed their first recording deal with Gee-Dee Records in Hamburg, Germany, releasing Without a Word in 1995. Subsequent releases on European labels, such as Thunderbeach (1996), Bitchin' (1999), and Wrap Around (2002), and tours established them internationally. Susan relocated to Portland, Oregon, in 2000, reforming the band there. Notable achievements include having songs featured in promotional DVDs for Nissan in 2005 and MTV’s The Real World: Sydney in 2007, as well as performing at the ROCKRGRL Music Conference in Seattle in 2005 and halftime shows for the NBA Portland Trail Blazers.
