He is an acclaimed South African musician, renowned for his role as the lead vocalist and primary songwriter of the alternative rock band Civil Twilight. His musical journey, fueled by a rich familial heritage of music, with a father owning a vast record collection and a mother who played the piano, began in earnest when he teamed up with his brother Andrew and childhood friend Richard Wouters to form Civil Twilight. The band, having moved to Nashville, Tennessee, in 2008, achieved notable success, with their albums Civil Twilight (2009), Holy Weather (2012), and Story of an Immigrant (2015) receiving critical acclaim.
