Biography

Stamatis Kraounakis is a Greek composer, producer, and lyricist born on December 25, 1955, in Athens. His work encompassed musical shows, theatre, cinema, and television. Kraounakis studied with Klelia Terzakis and debuted in 1977 with the theatre production Varieme, followed by the 1978 album To Spiti Tou Agamemnona. In 1981, he collaborated with Vicky Mosholiou on the recording Skouriasmena Hilia. He established a creative partnership with poet Lina Nikolakopoulou, resulting in the 1985 album Kikloforo Ki Oploforo. Kraounakis founded the performance group Speira Speira in 1998. His film scores included Afti I Nihta Menei (2000), which received the National Award at the Thessaloniki Film Festival, and Kourastika Na Skotono Tous Agapitikous Sou (2002), which received an Arion Award. He composed music for over 60 albums and 50 theatre plays. Kraounakis publicly identified as a member of the LGBT community in 2020.
