Biography

Aleksandr "Sammy" Babitzin, born on July 11, 1948, in Helsinki, Finland, was a Finnish singer of partial German-Russian descent. He began his professional music career with the band The Stealers and later sang under the pseudonym "Sammy-boy" in Leo Lindblom's group. Babitzin released his first single in 1966 and achieved notable success with hits such as "Daa-da daa-da", which won the Syksyn Sävel song contest in 1972, and covers like "Kuin tuhka tuuleen" and "Pikku-Kallen päivän huuli". He never released a studio album before his untimely death on April 29, 1973, in a car crash near Äänekoski. Babitzin's career was marked by significant achievements, including his candidacy for the Eurovision Song Contest with "Riviera".
