Art Laboe, born Arthur Egnoian on August 7, 1925, in Murray, Utah, was an American radio host, songwriter, record producer, and radio station owner. He began his career in radio while serving in the United States Navy during World War II, making his professional debut at KSAN in San Francisco in 1943. Laboe changed his last name to "Laboe" for its catchier sound. In 1959, he formed Original Sound Records and released two instrumental hits: "Teen Beat" by Sandy Nelson and "Bongo Rock" by Preston Epps, receiving writing credit on both. He is credited with coining the term "Oldies but Goodies," which he later trademarked and used as the title of an album series. In January 2006, he debuted the syndicated request and dedication radio show The Art Laboe Connection, which aired on multiple stations across the American Southwest. Throughout his career, he also worked at stations including KCMJ, KPOP, KXLA/KRLA, and KGGI. Laboe died on October 7, 2022, at the age of 97.
