Salad, an alternative rock group from London, was formed in 1992. The initial lineup included Dutch vocalist/keyboardist Marijne van der Vlugt, guitarist Paul Kennedy, bassist Pete Brown, and drummer Rob Wakeman. Van der Vlugt had previously worked as a model and video jockey for MTV Europe before forming Salad with her then-boyfriend Kennedy. Their first two releases, the Kent EP and "Diminished Clothes", were released on their own Waldorf label in 1993 and gained significant coverage in the music press. This led to a deal with Island Records and the release of subsequent EPs and singles, including "Motorbike to Heaven" which narrowly missed number 40 in the UK Singles Chart. Their first full-length album, Drink Me, was released in 1995 and reached number 16 on the UK Albums Chart. The band's second album, Ice Cream, was released in 1997 but failed to match the success of its predecessor. Salad disbanded in 1998 following their departure from Island Records. In 2017, the band reformed and released new material, including the album The Salad Way in 2019.
