Biography

SAKEROCK was a Japanese instrumental pop‑rock group formed in 2000 by former high‑school classmates from Hannō, Saitama. The lineup included Gen Hoshino on guitar and xylophone, Daichi Itō on drums, Kenta “Hamaken” Hamano on trombone and scat, Kei Tanaka on bass, ukulele, and guitar, and Takuji Nomura on synthesizer. Their debut came with the EP Sakerock (2002) and the single "Kaishain to Ima no Watashi" (2008), which introduced their blend of jazz, folk, and Latin influences. In 2005, the group released the album ライフサイクル and the soundtrack ペンギンプルペイルパイルズ・サウンドトラック「BEST」, establishing their reputation for melodic, inspiring instrumentals. Subsequent releases-ホニャララ (2008), LIFE CYCLE (2009), MUDA (2010), SAKEROCKの季節 Best 2000‑2013 (2014), and Sayonara (2015)-expanded their catalog, while their work on film and television soundtracks, including おじいさん先生 and ペンギンプルペイルパイルズ, garnered critical attention. The band was signed to Kakubarhythm and performed across Japan, supporting tours for the releases of ペンギンプルペイルパイルズ・サウンドトラック「BEST」 and ホニャララ. SAKEROCK disbanded in 2015 after a 15‑year career marked by steady chart presence and a dedicated fan base, with post‑disband releases such as Sayonara serving as a final statement of their musical identity.
