Biography
Russell D. Case, born March 19, 1912 in Hamburg, Iowa, was an American trumpeter, arranger, and bandleader whose career began as a youth playing in the studio band of radio station WOC in Davenport, Iowa. After moving to Chicago, Case performed with Frankie Trumbauer and later joined the Paul Whiteman Orchestra as a trumpeter and arranger. He recorded with Jimmy Lytell and His All Star Seven, and served as second trumpet with the Benny Goodman Orchestra. Following World War II, he directed the studio orchestra for NBC and worked as an A&R manager for pop music at RCA Victor. Case arranged for singer Perry Como on prominent recordings, which include the hit songs âPrisoner of Loveâ (1946) and âTill the End of Timeâ. His orchestral recordings include the album Dances Wild and the collaborative album Temptation (1963) with Percy Faith. Case later worked on the Jackie Gleason Show, arranging and conducting several studio album productions before his death on October 10, 1964 in Miami, Florida.
