Biography

Born on July 26th, 1991 in Singapore to two Chinese-Indonesian parents, jazz-pop singer-songwriter and guitarist Nathan Hartono first emerged in 2005 as the winner of talent contest Teenage Icon before sharing his first material with the world. Capitalising on his newfound stardom, he released a debut album entitled LET ME SING! Life, Love and All That Jazz in 2006, which topped HMV Singapore’s Jazz Chart for two consecutive weeks. Returning the following year with a sophomore LP, Feeling Good with Nathan Hartono, he began to land increasingly high-profile performance opportunities, appearing at the 2008 Singapore National Day concert and the 2009 Asian Youth Games opening ceremony. After releasing a third album, Realise (2009), and spending some time out of the public eye to complete his involuntary conscription in the national armed forces, Hartono reemerged in 2011 with a series of poppy new singles and a self-titled EP, showcasing his songwriting abilities in Indonesian for the first time. In 2016, he thrust himself into the spotlight among Mandarin-language audiences, entering and eventually placing second in TV talent show Sing! China under the wing of mentor Jay Chou. Making history as the series’ first Singaporean finalist, he soonreceived a nomination for the Straits Times’ coveted Singaporean of the Year Award. Tapping into his newfound Chinese fanbase in 2018, he signed to Warner and increased his Mandarin-language output, even re-recording translated versions of singles from his back catalogue. Off the back of a string of well-received offerings including “Dig Deep”, he unveiled a new six-track EP in September 2020 entitled Do Nothing Day.
