Rufus Zuphall, a German progressive rock band from Aachen, was formed in 1969 by Günter Krause (guitar, vocals), Helmut Lieblang (bass), Klaus Gülden (flute), and Udo Dahmen (drums). The band's unique sound blended British folk, blues, rock with jazz and classical elements. Their breakthrough came in 1970 at the Jazz Festival in Bilzen, Belgium. Rufus Zuphall released their debut album Weià der Teufel in 1970, featuring the title track "Weià der Teufel" which became a genre classic. The band disbanded in 1973 due to musical and personal differences. The unfinished third album, Avalon, was later released as Avalon and On in 1994, supplemented with live recordings from 1970 and 1971. Rufus Zuphall reunited in 1999 and continued performing at various clubs and festivals, releasing live albums such as Colder than Hell (2000) and Outside the Gates of Eden (2007).
