Biography

Grobschnitt is a German rock band that was founded in 1970 in Hagen, North Rhine-Westphalia. The founding members are Joachim Ehrig (known as Eroc) on drums, Gerd-Otto Kühn (Lupo) on guitar and Stefan Danielak (Willi Wildschwein) as singer and guitarist. The band is known for its progressive rock style, which integrates elements of krautrock and psychedelic rock. Over the years, the band went through several line-up changes. Early members include Axel Harlos (Felix) on guitar and Bernhard Uhlemann (Baer) on bass. Later members include Volker Kahrs (Mist) on keyboards and Wolfgang Jäger (Hunter) on bass. The band is known for its lavish live performances and humorous stage shows. Grobschnitt's best-known albums include Rockpommel's Land (1977) and Solar Music Live (1978). The latter reached number 17 in the German album charts. Other successful albums are Jumbo (1975) and Illegal (1980). The single "Sonnenflug" is released in 1976 and contributes to the band's popularity. In the 1980s, the band released further singles such as "Silent Movie" (1981) and "Wir wollen leben" (1982). After disbanding in 1989, the band re-formed in 2006 and remained active until 2012. Grobschnitt has been performing with a smaller line-up again since 2019. In May 2022, the band released the acoustic album, which reached number 25 in the German album charts.
