Biography

German post-rock and mainly instrumental alternative rock band, Long Distance Calling was formed in Münster in 2006 around Florian Füntmann (guitar) and Janosch Rathmer (drums), former members of Misery Speaks. Bassist Jan Hoffmann and guitarist David Jordan complete the line-up, who record their debut album Satellite Bay (2007), before performing at the Rock am Ring festival the following year. The group of instrumentalists signed to the Superball Music label for the next three albums, Avoid the Light (2009), Long Distance Calling (2011) and The Flood Inside (2013), which featured a singer and sound engineer, Martin Fischer. Petter Carlsen then takes over for the first recording on the InsideOut label, Trips (2016), followed by Boundless (2018) and How Do We Want to Live? (2020). In 2022, Long Distance Calling signed with the Ear Music label for the album Eraser, which reached No. 5 in the German charts. Following the release of the live album Live at Lichtburg (2025), the quartet returned to the studio to work on their ninth opus, The Phantom Void (2026).
