Biography

Abacus is a German rock ensemble formed in January 1971. The original lineup consisted of Chris Williams, Chris Barutzky, Charly Schade, Klaus Kohlhase, and Felix Hans. The ensemble made its debut at a pop festival in Langelsheim and signed with the Polydor label. Its eponymous debut studio recording, Abacus, appeared in 1971, followed by Just a Day's Journey Away in 1972. The band became inactive in 1976 due to musical differences. In 1979, the group resumed activity with new members, including keyboardist Jürgen Wimpelberg. Under the leadership of Kohlhase, the ensemble released new recordings and reissues through labels such as Musea and New Music - Green Tree. Its discography featured the studio recordings Fire Behind Bars (2001) and Destiny (2010). The group released the album Highland Warrior in 2021.
