Biography

Udo Gerhard Lindenberg (born May 17, 1946 in Gronau/Westphalia) is a singer, rock musician, writer and painter from Germany. Udo Lindenberg began his musical career as a drummer in various bands. In 1971, Udo Lindenberg released his debut album Lindenberg. He still sings in English on it. The second album, Daumen Im Wind, followed in 1972, this time in German. From then on, Udo Lindenberg only sings in German. In 1973, Udo Lindenberg achieved his first respectable success with the album Alles Klar Auf Der Andrea Doria. He recorded the album with the so-called Panikorchester, as Udo Lindenberg called his backing band. Derived from this, Udo Lindenberg later received the nickname 'Panikrocker'. With the following albums Ball Pompös (1974), Votan Wahnwitz (1975) and Galaxo Gang - Das Sind Die Herrn Vom Andern Stern (1976), Udo Lindenberg achieved top 10 rankings. In the 1980s, Udo Lindenberg made his breakthrough in Germany. Especially with the songs "Wozu Sind Kriege Da?" (1981) from the album Intensivstationen, "Sonderzug Nach Pankow" (1983) from the album Odyssee, "Horizont" (1987) from the album Phönix, "Ich Lieb' Dich Überhaupt Nicht Mehr" (1988) from the album Feuerland and "Ein Herz Kann Man Nicht Reparieren" from the album Ich Will Dich Haben made Udo Lindenberg famous. After that, things became a little quieter for the panic rock star. In 2008, Udo Lindenberg made a phenomenal comeback with the album Stark Wie Zwei. The release brought him his first number 1 ranking in Germany and triple platinum status. Another number 1 album followed in 2016 with Stärker Als Die Zeit. the single "Wieder Genauso" follows in 2021 . Udo Lindenberg wins the German music award Echo several times for his music. Funnily enough, he already received the Echo for his life's work in 1992, before his career really took off again. Udo Lindenberg also makes a name for himself as a painter. His liqueurs now fetch top prices in Germany. Together with rapper Apache 207, Udo Lindenberg achieved a number 1 hit in Germany and Austria with the single "Komet" in 2023. At the beginning of August 2024, the new edition of the 1987 album I Don't Know Who I Should Belong To is released. This is the English version of the album Phönix (1986). The re-release reaches number 58 in the German album charts.
